Great wall
Brick over brick,
I have built myself a great wall over the years
For a reason, - because of fear,
One that would hide the soft side that I bear
It was a long way to go,
But I was happy with the progress,
The wall was high,
Enough to cover and shelter my little soul
I am happy with the comfort I have,
But then, there was this murmuring outside
A stranger, a soul I met through voices through the wall
He said, he is my kind
It was then I realized, I talked to myself for a long time
And lost the feeling of cordiality and warmth.
I enjoyed talking to this voice outside,
He speak of honey, lingering through my soul
Through time, he talked about a door on my wall,
One, that I didn't, and never made
He talked about seeing me,
He talked about letting him in
Gladly, thrilled, and hopeful,
I break my walls
Only to find out,
I was talking to none; I was hoping for none...
Or at least, he left and watch the fool that I am
I said, and I was, afraid of the rain and the dark
But it is storming in the middle of the night
Fear now, is the only warmth I have
With my wretched heart,
And my broken soul,
I pick up bricks and rocks,
I'll built walls, - higher this time.
